Über mich

This is the obligatory About-Page. But about what?

If it was about me, then of course it should contain information that is appropriate for the world wide web. Unfortunately I don’t really know what is appropriate. That’s something my parents couldn’t teach me when I was a kid, because back then there was hardly a Web 0.1 beta and questions like this did not arise. But the Web has changed since then. As of September 2005 we can be proud to officially have the Web 2.0. People start to participate on, create and comment the Web. This blog itself is a perfect example for this development. Services like MySpace, Facebook and Twitter prosper but the boring question what and how much to tell about us is still not answered.

For now, without much thinking, I can already say that the Information shared on the web must be potentially appropriate to: any possible future bosses, advertising-companies, banks, spammers and the other one billion web users. For me this causes a roleconflict that I couldn’t figure out, yet.
Hint for the eager ones: Just looking at the addressbar of your browser will tell you a lot :-)

Said that, I going to write something about this blog instead. Since I will spend a full academic year in Cork, Ireland for studying and cultural interchange, with this blog Family and friends and all those who are interested are welcome to see and read what is happening over there.
It might therefore also contain interesting information to other students that are planning to go to Cork for a similar purpose.

Secondly I will provide some hints and solutions for problems I encounter in my everyday-life with my computer. Over the past years I learned much from discussion boards I found while googleling for a solution to a specific problem. But I never wrote an article myself. So now it’s time to give back and share hints that some people might find useful.
